The Muppets (2011)

4 out of 5 stars

As I live and breathe, I never thought I would see the day that the Muppets would make a comeback. Yes, those TV series of our childhood are back to entertain us - and new audiences alike. Easily, The Muppets have succeeded where The Smurfs have failed. Welcome back. :D

The Good: Of course, the 80s-90s material that the Muppets do needs to be reworked. Here comes in Jason Segel (of How I Met Your Mother fame) to co-produce, co-write and co-star in this film. I have to say, he pulled all the stops with Amy Adams, who basically reprises her role in Enchanted, although sassier and more realistic. The Good? EVERYONE from the Muppets is back. For a semi-musical, this film is never corny. Instead, it pokes fun in itself, not taking itself too seriously and just simply having fun. I love the fact the this film doesn’t try too hard to cram too much in itself. What we get is a lightning quick story that packs a lot of punch and a lot of laughs. Above all, I’d be hard-pressed to see anyone not entertained by this film.  I’m pretty sure TV and popculture fans everywhere will be pleased with the cameos. Trust me on this one.

The Bad: If The Muppets were never your thing, there’s a likelihood you would be entertained like a fan, but give it a try. You might end up liking it anyway.
